Step 3 - South Africa after Apartheid

We finished our sequence by studying the end of Apartheid and life in South Africa afterwards.

We first watched the 1990 BBC news report on the release of Mandela. The report is mostly based on extracts from Mandela's press conference when released and is shortly followed by the interview of a few white South Africans in the street.

Then we studied an excerpt from a novel entitled Dog Eat Dog which was written by a South African writer, Niq Mhlongo, in 2004. The extract is a first-person narrative which relates the narrator's experience of South Africa's first "free and fair elections" in 1994.
